The south side of the island faces the open sea, and some of its best-known beaches are there. It is a different sea from the lagoons, more open and with more waves.
Lopes Mendes, the most famous, cannot be reached by boat: the group lands at Pouso beach and continues on foot along a trail. Then there is half an hour at Caxadaço and two hours at Dois Rios, home to the island's old prison. The last stop is Ilha de Jorge Grego.
Lunch, drinks and snorkel gear are not included; you can rent the gear. The route may change with the weather and the sea: the captain decides on the day, always for safety.
